Visiting Hours
By Bran
For Pesha

Angelus walked down the sidewalk whistling a merry tune, roses in his hand. The slayer was finally incapacitated so he could finally make his move. Angelus strolled into the hospital lobby, smiling as he felt a nurse's eyes undressing him. Then he ran right into Xander, who instantly jumped up to block his path.

"Visiting hours are over." Xander sneered.

"Well, I'm pretty much family." Angelus calmly replied.

"Yeah. Why don't you come back during the day? Oh, gee, no, I guess you can't. And you have the nerve to bring Buffy flowers? Unbelievable, deadboy!"

Although his demon prevented him from displaying it, Angelus felt a stab of pain as Xander insulted him.

"I wasn't here to see Buffy...the flowers were for you" Angelus mumbled as he turned and rushed out of the hospital into the night. Angelus couldn't understand why the flowers didn't work...wasn't that what humans did? Give each other flowers?

Xander stared in shock as Angelus ran out the hospital doors. He couldn't believe it...Angelus brought HIM flowers?! No one had ever done anything like that before. No one had ever showed affection for him, much less that they cared. Xander was used to his father hitting him and his own mother accusing him of being a loser, worthless. No one had ever valued him.

Xander rushed out into the night calling Angelus' name. He ran down the street frantically searching but not finding, fearing that he never would find Angelus. Xander ran down an alley and immediately regretted it as he heard vampiric growls from behind him. He turned and saw a male vampire, laughing at the easy meal he appeared to him.

"No...no please...I have to find someone..." Xander stuttered as the vampire moved in on him.

"Haha...how pathetic, you don't even fight back!" The vampire laughed. In that instant it wasn't the vampire Xander saw, but his mother, laughing at him as he cried after his father punched him.

"Alexander, you don't even fight back, you're pathetic!" His mother would shriek.

Xander let the vampire shove him against the wall, then started to cry as he felt the vampire lick his neck. He closed his eyes as he felt sharp fangs press against his neck then opened them suddenly as the vampire disappeared. Angelus was standing in front of him, a broken wooden board in his hand, vampire ashes blowing away in the wind.

Tears still streaming down his face, Xander looked up pathetically at his rescuer. "Why? I thought you were evil..." Xander asked.

"Just because I like to kill doesn't mean I can't have feeling, emotions. You're so vulnerable, you need someone to care for you, and I'm going to do just that" Angelus said as he moved closer to Xander.

Arms unfamiliar to the simple gesture humans did frequently opened to accept Angelus' embrace and Xander looked into Angelus' eyes begging to be reassured this was really happening. Angelus leaned over and brushed his lips over Xander's and felt Xander's lips part to accept his probing tongue.

The kiss ended all too soon as Angelus leaned back to look Xander full in the face. "Things are going to be a little different around Sunnydale" Angelus whispered as he grasped Xander's hand and proceeded to take him back to his mansion.
