Wesley was the last person to see Charles Gunn. He distinctly remembers the moment Gunn walked into the lift, pressed a series of buttons only a few people knew about, and nodded to Wesley as the lift doors closed and he disappeared forever.
Years passed, and, eventually, the pain of losing yet another friend faded. Wesley faced many battles, and more friends died, and if he ever regretted anything, he never said.
He thought he saw Charles once again, a late summer night as he returned from yet another battle. Older, stockier, serene with inner knowledge Wesley knew he'd never gain, the man, wearing sunglasses and a long leather coat, walked past him, surrounded by young (and Wesley remembered being that young, once) people dressed just like him, gleaming under the flickering streetlights.
He turned to watch Wesley as the group walked past him.
Neither of them said a word.
