The Next Morning

He puts on the bracelets and necklaces first, twisting and tying them around his body. Then the paper-thin boxers with the nearly-invisible pattern, slid over pale hipbones. The t-shirt is barely thicker than his boxers, faded greens against faded browns against faded skin, but the cords make up for the thinness of both — a thick, rich, earthy brown, velvet-soft inside and out.

He slides on his abused sneakers, pulls on his heavy jacket, the sheepskin collar gently stroking his neck, and stops to briefly look in the mirror.

The wolf looks back at him. Everything else is a costume.
