1. Flower meaning: friendship
- Invisible in the space between our fingers there is a
- Vine beginning to wind, slowly, up from my hand to
- Your heart. I can't take my palm from yours: its warmth.
2. Flower meaning: longing
- Can't say I never thought about it before I met you, but
- All I can see now when I look around is men:
- Men and their sturdy arms, men and their closed
- Eyes, men and their panting breaths-- maybe that
- Last one's just in my mind. Or during gym. But what I'd
- Like to say isn't just that I'm kind of-- queer. Because
- It's your sleeveless shirt, your ginger hair, your quiet sighs.
- And if I could just say this out loud, I'd be fine.
3. Flower meaning: grief
- All I could see was Will's chin, her wet
- Lips, the bright hair falling like a curtain
- Over her face. Buffy's hand hovering near her
- Embarrassed cheek. I left the library before they saw me.
4. Flower meaning: adoration
- Some sun has moved inside me, hot and strange
- Under my skin; under your gaze I'll unfold into a
- New thing. And I've known love, love like the
- Fish-hook, the sweet spot, the molten core;
- Love like the sore tooth I can't stop tonguing.
- Onto your smooth skin now I spill, split raw,
- Worn open by the insistent lapping of your lips.
- Every word I say is yours. Run into me like a
- River meeting dirt: this is what love is, now; I am, now, quenched.
